Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

consent for pysch counseling

Mother and father share joint legal/joint physical custody of 12-year old. Mom wants child to see psychologist for anxiety. Father opposes this. Is father able to block this legally? I know that in Texas, psychological counseling is considered invasive and needs both parents to consent. Is there a similar law in Virginia?

Re: consent for pysch counseling

No, not if the court decides that the child should have counseling. And there is no rule in the Commonwealth of which I am aware that necessarily requires the consent of both parents; this issue, if it must be litigated, is decided by the court on a case by case basis.
