Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
I have to go to court soon because my ex-husband is trying to cut my alimony because he quit his job. In our agreement it states he doesn't get to cut the alimony if he quits his job. I cant afford an attorney because he already cut the alimony down because his attorney said he could. So I have to represent myself. the whole time we were separated he tried to say he got laid off, then he said his hours got cut (when he cut his own hours), then he tried to move it to Alabama where his girlfriend lives and give me no alimony after 28 years of marriage.
can I show all this to the judge to show he quit his job to get out of alimony and he will probably go back to his old company when he has the alimony changed.
1 Answer from Attorneys
if you cannot afford to hire an attorney to represent you in a difficult matter such as you've
described, it would seem highly advisable for you (at the very least) to arrange for a consultation
with an attorney well experienced with the practice of domestic relations law in the Commonwealth
and who should be able to advise you as to how to best prepare and
present your case at the scheduled hearing.
