Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My cousi in law was living with her boyfriend in an apartment untill this past Friday, when he packed all his things and left without paying the rent. She just gave birth to his baby not 20 days ago and now her and the baby are being evicted because he abandoned them. What is her first step after she moves her and her son into my house?
