Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Custody of minor child between unmarried couple.
My boyfriend and I are not married. We have a 2.5 year old daughter.
We have been together 6 years. The relationship has become very hurtful and unproductive.

Her father does not want to be responsable for her. For example...He does not want to ''babysit'' for her when I have to work. He expects me to pay all my own bills and all of hers and not to bother him. (He pays mortgage and utilities through his company.)

If I move out with her, can I ask for child support? Can I limit his visitation to supervised visits? He has proven unreliable as a supervising parent.

She does have his last name so he claims her as a possesion.

If the relationship ended and you left with custody of

of the minor, you would be entitled to child support.

All parents must pay child support as ordered by

a Virginia court. As for his visitation schedule,

the court will not require "supervised" visitation

unless there is cause. If he has a history of violence

or abuse, then it would be appropriate.
