Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

custody for single mother

I am the parent of a 12 year old child. His father has never been a part of his life. No support has been paid and none is asked for. His name is on the birth certificate. I need to get a passport , but they will not issue one without his consent. I have not have contact in at least 10 years and have no way to contact him. What are my options?

Re: custody for single mother

You will probably need to obtain, if you do not have one, a court order showing that you have sole custody of the child.

See the following website:

The Virginia Beach J&DR Court has a helpful website with information about forms and filings.

If you are in a hurry, you may find that obtaining the services of an attorney will be helpful.

Good luck
