Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Does my daughter who is 14yrs of age have to be subpeonaed to appear in court for show cause hearing and child custody hearing in Fairfax county , VA. She is currently residing with me and has been since July of 2010. I was told by a VA attorney that I could just bring her to court as a witness. My daughter adamantly wants to testify.

A person does not have to be subpoenaed to testify in court. But there may be some legal issues preventing certain persons from testifying if pretrial procedures are not handled properly.
