Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Hi, My daughter is 9 yrs old. Her father has seen her less than 10 visits all of her life. He has always been welcome see her and take her anywhere locally. I've even given him my car to drive and access to my home. He simply hasn't followed through. I just recieved paperwork from his lawyer that he is asking for legal joint custody (only seeing her once a month and 2 weeks of summer) and unsupervised visitation out of the area code. I also offered to drive her to his out of town home for a weekend. He expressed that he does not want me to know where he lives or who he lives with. I would love for her to spend time with him. But she does not know him. What can I do to keep just a few visits supervised until she is comfortable with him? Also, how can I keep her in-state and in area code?

I assume you are going to fight this change. You should see and hire an attorney immediately. I do not see the point in joint legal custody if he rarely even sees her. Also, you deserve to know where he lives, his phone number, and who lives with him.
Yes, I concur in attorney Moseley's advice. If the father has a lawyer, you
had best also have one representing your interests in this matter.
