Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

divorce amendment

My x-husband and i have agreed to change our original papers and now i will be putting my son on my vehicle insurance and he will be purchasing my son a car. This is reversed from the original paperwork, do i need to get an official document from a lawyer or can i write one myself and have a notary stamp it?

Re: divorce amendment

If the "original paperwork" to which you refer was a PSA(Property Settlement Agreement) which was ultimately then incorporated into your final decree of divorce, to have the enforceability of the court for these proposed changes, the divorce would likely have to be reopended and a motion filed to have the PSA amended and then reincorporated into the final decree.(Something an attorney would have to handle for you.)
