Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
I have a divorce decree from the state of Indiana stating that my petition for a name change(back to my maiden name) was granted, however the Social Security Adminstration and DMV will not accept the paperwork I recieved from the court in Indiana. I now reside in Virginia, can I request paperwork for an official name change from the courts in Virginia or do I have contact the Indiana court that granted me the divorce?

There should be no need for you to petition again for the restoration of
your maiden name if i'ts already been granted by a court of proper jurisdiction in Indiana(which appears to be the case).
It would seem that your next best step would be to find out
exactly why these government agencies are apparently refusing to accept the validity of your order from Indiana regarding this name change.(Perhaps,
the Indiana decree needs to be certified by the clerk's office as a true
copy of the original?)
