Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Divorce and Medical Bills

I'm preparing to divorce my husband. I live in North Carolina; he in Virginia. I want to sue him for medical expenses for a condition he has afflicted me with but refused to take responsibility for as well as recovery of attorney fees for when I go to court (because he won't cooperate), but aren't sure where to get started on research on court procedures and/or both state's laws regarding this type of situation and getting jurisdiction over him. Also, what type of legal category would this fall under- divorce law + civil suit, or something different? Any information I can get before going to court would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Divorce and Medical Bills

It sounds as if your proposed civil action against your husband would be for alleged personal injury, and therefore the lawsuit would need to be filed in the Virginis city or county where he lives or works.(I assume that the condition you're referring to is some form of STD, i.e. sexually transmitted disease.)

If the foregoing is correct, this would be an action separate and apart from the divorce suit which you would need to file in North Carolina, your state of residence.
