Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Divorce In Mexico?

Hello,

My wife is asking for a divorce. We were married in Mexico where we are both from. We now live in Virginia. Do we have to get our divorce in Mexico and Virginia? Or would the divorce be legal if we only did it in Virginia?

Re: Divorce In Mexico?

No, if you're residents of Virginia, you get your divorce here in the Commonwealth. (And, no, no second go-round in the courts of Mexico is required to ensure the validity of the Virginia divorce.)

You have to get a divorce in Virginia if you've lived here in VA for at least six months. I am happy to help you get divorced in VA if you would like.
