A typical lawyer answer: it depends.

If you now live in Virginia you can start a divorce action here, have her "constructively" served by publishing a notice in a local newspaper, then proceed to the divorce after a sufficient time to allow her to answer.

If you don't live in Virginia, you have to ask your question of an attorney who practices in your home state.

You start by filing a Bil of Complaint for Divorce in a jurisdiction where you have resided for 6 months. You have to use your best efforts to find out where she is. If you finf her serve her, if not then you must obtain leave if Court to publish notice in a newpaper of national circulation for four consecutive weeks.

Good luck
