Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Domestic

My husband and I got into an argument in public and he pushed me, and also yanked me out of the car. He left me and witnesses called the police. The police took my information. I told them I don't want him arrested and I don't want to press charges. They said they have to arrest him but that if i don't want to press charges i just have to tell the judge. Is that true? Also if i don't show up to court will they dismiss the charges against him?

Re: Domestic

No, it's not true; you could, however, tell the prosecutor assigned to the case that you do not wish to testify against your husband regarding this particular incident.
