domestic relations charge

My wife and I had an argument that was observed by a passerby. They called 911 and the police came. I was released but later charged and arrested with misdomeaner assault. My wife filed the complaint only after being encouraged continuously by the police. She has no complaint. How do I defend myself? They will not let her withdraw her complaint.
