Emancipation of Minors

I have read a wealth of information related to Virginia law regarding emancipation of minors and still have a question. My daughter is dating a young man that is suffering psychological abuse by his widowed mother. She is continually verbally abusive, controls his every movement and requires an excessive amount of physical labor. He is a 15 year old boy with a 4.0 grade average, is one step away from being an Eagle Scout, is an outstanding soccer player and excels in his high school band. By all appearances he is the model child. The custodial parent is a college professor who attends church on a regular basis. She is active in the community. She appears to be a caring, rationale individual. My family was deceived by appearances the first nine months we were involved with the family. Now we understand that the mother�s public persona and reality are vastly different. The child cries when he has to go home at the end of the evening knowing what faces him when he walks in the door. I can hardly tolerate the thought of leaving him in this situation. I know that he must be 16 in order to be emancipated. If this 15 year old boy is truly being

abused, the matter should be reported to the local Child Protective Services agency for the area(on their hotline, if necessary).

Otherwise, Mom, my advice would be: MYOB.
