Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Emergency Contact Information

I have, as stated in my court documents, the right to my childrens school and health information. There was an incident which involved my son getting hurt at school and when mom was called, she could not make it to the school. I have asked for 3 years now, to be put on the emergency contact and mom says that I am listed. I contacted the school last year and they said I wasnt, then when I asked again they said I was. After the incident that involved my son this school year, I contacted the school yet again, and they said that I was not listed and that I could not be added. How is that so? Last year I requested and received a ''complete'' (which was far from complete) copy of files and I was not listed. How can I get the school to add me, is there a VA code for that? Thanks!

Re: Emergency Contact Information

No, there is nothing in the Code of Virginia which specifically addresses your issue, as far as I am aware.

You could write a letter to the school administration and attach a copy of your court order(s), and formally requesting that your name be included as an emergency contact for your children.

Then, if the school still refuses your request, you may want to consult with a local attorney regarding what further action might feasibly be taken on this particular issue.
