Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Can I file for back child support for the 7 years I had my daughter?

Her mother has had her for the past 4 years, but I had her for the 7 before that. I did not file for a support order at the time, thinking it would promote a good relationship with my ex-wife. But ever since she's had custody she just keeps filing for more and more. Can I file to get some back support for those years and use it to pay part of what she's asking for now?

In a word, no. You can only claim retroactive child support from the date of the first petition. If you didn't ask for it then, you can't ask for it now.
