Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Would like to finalize my Divorce
My husband and I seperated in Jan 2005. In june 2005 I was awarded full custody of both of our children. As of now I can not find him to finalize the divorce or to file for child support. I contacted an attorney in my area that said he would file a legal ad in the paper where I live and if no response in two weeks could have it finalized. The catch was the $800 he wants to charge me. Again I am raising 2 kids on my own with no child support or help. Legal aid will not help because I do not have a child support order in place. Is there any other way to have this finalized, I just want this to be done, and at this point have given up on the thought of ever getting child support. I live in VA

There are attorneys who charge much less than $800 because you don't need a property separation agreement. All you need are the documents to be filed in court.
It is true that you will have to post the notice in the newspaper but it has to be for 4 weeks, not just 2.
