Foster Care Placement

My child is in a residential treament program and is not doing well. We are thinking of placeing her in foster care. What are my responsibilities as her father. Will I have to pay the state support or does the state of va release me. Is it based on family income? Child is 15.

Re: Foster Care Placement

Your responsibilites as a father will continue, no matter what residential treatment facility or foster care home your daughter is placed in---until she turns 18, or possibly a few years older, if certain conditions apply. That responsibility includes the obligation to pay child support and under no circumstances will the Commonwealth release you from this obligation and allow the taxpayers "to take it over", so to speak.
