Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My best friend and her little brother currently live with her aunt. Their dad is not in the picture and the mom was a drug user years ago. I am not sure if the biological parents gave her aunt custody or if they just took them in, but she is miserable and want's to live with her real mom, who has cleaned up and is back in her life now. Her brother is undecided as to where he wants to live, but is leaning towards their mom as well. Their aunt doesn't want them to live with their mom, but because of living with her aunt, my friend is now on anti-depressants and goes to counciling. She is 17 and her brother is 12-13. She would like to avoid court if possible, but if not thats understandable. What should she do?

Wait for the Earth to spin however many times it must until she's 18 years

of age and can move wherever and live with whomever she pleases (would

be my recommendation).

In the meantime, her little brother can mature a while longer in his thinking about where and with whom he might like to spend his latter teen years.
