Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I have a friend who has just had a child. I have kept the child for over 3 weeks on and off, the child is only 6 weeks old. The friend has drug dealers and has put the child in the type of enviroment which is a big threat to his life. I need your advice on how, or even if i can, try to pursue custody of the child.

No, as merely a friend of the child's mother, you have no legal standing to pursue legal custody of this child. However, if the child would be exposed to a dangerous environment by returing it to its mother, you should contact your local department of social services and CPS organizations to arrange for this child to be placed in temporary foster care.
