Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

What I am trying to help my friend with is how can she file for a dirvorce when she lives in Panama and not a resident of the states. She is married to someone that is an American. She contacted some lawlyers in Panama and they told her they could not do anything because she got married her in the states. I have found other info online but it is mostly geared towards someone that is from the states that is trying to divorce someone that has moved out of the country.

As I have already indicated in a previous answer, the laws of Panama must surely allow for

one of its current residents to file for divorce in the appropriate court of that country irrespective of

where the resident was married as the occurrence of these two events cannot be contingent on

each other with respect to where they are initiated and whatever Panamanian lawyers your friend has been speaking with have to be mistaken in their advice.

Your friend would appear well advised to consult with an attorney in Panama who actually practices

in the area of domestic relations law, particularly divorce for another opinion on her situation.
