Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Grandparent Visitation Rights

My granddaughter has a 2 week old baby boy. The father has admitted paternity. My granddaughter is 18 and she and the baby still live with her parents. The father's mother wants to visit the baby anytime she pleases and wants to take the baby to her house and even to visit relatives in other areas of Virginia. She is mad and has made some threats toward court visitation rights. What rights does Virginia law allow her? My granddaughter is young and worried about not allowing her to do the things she wants to do. The baby is also nursing, which limits how far from the mother he can go.

Re: Grandparent Visitation Rights

As an apparent grandparent of the child and therefore a person with a legitimate interest, you would have the right to sue under Va. Code Sec. 20-124.1 for visitation rights with the child.
