Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Grandparents Rights?

My husband I are married and happy together. However we do not allow are children to see my parents unsupervised, as there is a history of violence there. We recently completed a will leaving the care of our children to a sister and brother in law if anything should happen to us. Do I need to do something to make sure my parents are unable to sue them for visitation rights? Especailly unsupervised ones, in the event that something happens to my husband and I? What if it's just me that passes away? Do I need to do something to make sure my parents can't sue my husband for visitation either?

Re: Grandparents Rights?

No, your parents can always sue, no matter what steps you've taken to place your children in the custody of others, but if your wishes are clearly memoralized in your will, and the record of violence regarding your parents is available, if needed, to counter any such suits, I think the likelihood is very small that they would succeed in gaining what, apparently, they have thus far been unable to obtain even with respect to visitation.
