Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Guardian Ad Litem's opinion
Long story short - custody case for over 2 years. we have split week visitation. I'm trying to get it changed to a more typical visitation schedule - no split week. Giving him every other week in the summer. We were court ordered co-parenting which didn't work. He drinks with and without the kids around, takes my 7 year old hunting, won't give him his ADHD medication, doesn't do their homework, has had the kids around numerous gf's, doesn't give me information regarding school, and has said no one will tell him what he can and can't do with his kids. My oldest daughters counselor says the schedule should change in my favor. The guardian is recommending nothing be changed because kids are used to the schedule. She said we will have it court ordered no overnights with gf, no hunting, med's must be given. My ex has already violated the existing court order. He didn't give 30 day notification he move. He didn't pay his child support. He's not paying medical bills. Putting all the above in a court order won't stop him from doing what he wants. How much weight does her opinion hold in court?

Re: Guardian Ad Litem's opinion
A G.A.L.'s report and recommendation(s) to the judge will normally carry considerable to a great deal of weight with the judge, depending upon a variety of factors related to the guardian as well as to the case itself.
