Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My spouse has told me that he recently went to the home of the person I was involved with when we were seperated and attempted to break the windows of their vehicle as well as doing some vandalism on their home.

Is this illegal? Should I inform the other party? (They were not home at the time) I am uncertain as to whether I want to reconcile with my spouse - their anger is scary and they have substance abuse issues.

Not only is this kind of activity illegal, it's also a prosecutable crime known as the destruction of property for which one can be sent to jail.
