Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Can I be held liabale for husband's debt, if we were not married when he got it?

I have a few questions. First one is If I am planning on getting married to someone, that has a pretty large debt. Such as fines, leins, and back child support, and back taxes. Some of which he will be filing a bankrupsy on, old debts that were his and his ex wife's, would I be liable for any of those things? If so, is there any way that before we get married, that I can make draw up something so I won't owe any of it? I know they will take his taxes for that child support, but if I file seperately, they can't take mine too right?

No, you would not (and could not)be held responsible for these kinds of prior debts which belong to your prospective spouse.
