Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Home Purchase

My wife and I signed a property settlement agreements a few days ago. The home was left to me but when I sell I have to split the equity, in the current market that aint much. I am looking to sell that home and purchase a new home. Now with that said, there is a change that my wife and I could reconcile. Is is wise to buy a new home, will it be all mine if we proceed with divorce after a year. Please advise. Also, I gave her sole custody of our child. If we do go to a divorce and I then ask to change it to Joints Custody. Thanks in advance.

Re: Home Purchase

If you've already concluded a PSA with your wife, then presumably this agreement contains a provision which addresses the issue of ownership of newly acquired property on your part postdating the agreement, namely, that your wife will not share in any part of the ownership of such property.

As to the custody issue, you can always request a change in custody arrangements which, of course, doesn't necessarily mean that such a request will be accommodated.
