Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Husband filing bankruptcy on joint account

I have just been informed by a creditor (unsecured loan) that my husband has told them he is filing bankruptcy. It was the one account that he agreed to pay during our separation negotiations, verbally and in writing from his attorney. It is a joint account so naturally the burden will fall back on me to pay. I am already paying everything that I agreed to and have never once been late on a payment. I can't afford another $550 a month! What do I do now?

Re: Husband filing bankruptcy on joint account

Why not contact your husband to confirm what the creditor is telling you. Perhaps, something can be worked out so that your husband can follow through on his promise and pay off the obligation(perhaps, at a lower monthly rate).

Otherwise, as a jointly and severally liable

signatory to the account(as they say in the law), you're stuck.
