Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My husband married me and left the state. It has been over 10 years since he left and I dont know where to find him. I cannot afford an expensive attourney. How much would it cost for me to file for divorce by public notice? Can I do this without an attourney?

Yes, you can file for divorce without an attorney and you may be able to pick up

a packet of forms with instructions from the clerk's office of your local

circuit court(civil division) which explains how to go about it or go online and download it from a court's website.

And, after having searched diligenly to find a current address for your husband

without result, you could then seek an order of publication from the court

allowing you to give your husband the required legal notice of your divorce suit via a notice in the legal ads section of a local newspaper.(The fee for filing a divorce is probably now somewhere around $100.00)
