Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My husband just told me he did not file his divorce papers form his first wife correctly. He said he thought it was done. We got married in 2010. Is our marriage legal? Can he fix his mistake without us having to be remarried? How does this affect us legally with taxes we've filed, our jobs, our son? I am devistated please tell me this mistake can be fixed.

Yes, this alleged mistake can undoubtedly be fixed(assuming errors were in fact made) but only after a Virginia attorney appropriately experienced and knowledgeable regarding the domestic relations laws of the Commonwealth has had an opportunity to review the relevant documents as well as facts in this matter and who should then be able to advise you as to what your proper course should be as to any corrective action(s) that may be required.

Of course it can all be fixed. I suspect all parties (you, him, his ex) want it to be fixed, so it's just a matter of putting one legal foot in front of the other and marching forward.
