Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

my husband of 20 years abandoned me and our 2 sons in 2001. It took me years to find him, he is living in another state hiding behind a women who fronts everything to look like he doesn't exist anymore, BUT he does. Is it too late to get back child support and other money? I am still legally married to him What if he is receiving S.S.? Can I get some of that?

You have to determine which state has jurisdiction over him. Which state's laws apply to him.

Was anything filed in court against him when he abandoned you, if so what. If there was a support order against him....you should be able to get the money. Most states allow for some money regarding S.S. but not much. You have to look to individual state laws. Child support agency goes across states lines.
