Re: Jail for non payment of child support

The court having jurisdiction (power) over the child support matter has the authority to

exercise what's known as its power of contempt

to order a delinquent, non-paying party to jail

for a certain term. Whether or not the person subject to penalty was employed during the relevant time period is one of many relevant facts for the court to consider in deciding

whether(and how long)to jail the person.
