Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Judge giving an unfair judgement

A male friend of mine has had custody of his daughter for the last 6 1/2 years (All of her life) Due to the child being molested by a brother, and the mother's lack of responsibility, the child has never been in her care. He has sole custody of his daughter. They appointed a lawyer for the child. The child's best interest is to stay with the father. The child is happy in her father's home. However, the judge seems to have a bias opinion and wants the child with her mother. Is it normal that the judge goes against the child's court appointed lawyer?
