Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Jurisdiction

Recently, in a court battle for grandparent visitation (biological fathers parents) over my child, the judge ruled there was ''no jurisdiction'' in VA because my child was legally adopted by my husband. What does this mean in terms that I can understand?

Re: Jurisdiction

If your current husband adopted your child, this means that at some prior time the parental rights of the child's biological father were necessarily terminated, which simultaneously terminated the

right of the grandparents(his parents) to visitation. Therefore, there was no basis for their claim(the grandparents') and no jurisdiction for the court to hear it.
