jurisdicton in child custody

My original order is from San Diego, Ca. I have not resided there for aprox. 6 yrs. I am now a resident of Virginia. How do I go about getting Ca. to relinquish Jurisdiction to Virginia?

Re: jurisdicton in child custody

Under the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act UCCJA, once your child has resided in Virginia six or more months, Virginia now has jurisdiction over the issue of custody.

If some aspect of custody is now in need of review for modification, the custodial parent can file a petition

with the local Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court to set the matter down for a hearing.
