Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

What is the law regarding claiming a child on a tax return? My ex and I have two children. We have joint custody. Primary to her. The child support was redone as shared custody. I am wondering if I am entitled to claim one of the children on taxes, or would I need to get my ex's permission. Thank You

Normally, parents cooperate on this issue and coordinate between them who will claim the dependency deduction and when. IRS rules require that the child

be a dependent in the home of the claiming parent for more than 180 days in any

given year for which the deduction is claimed for it to be valid.
