I am leaving town for 10 days and leaving my children with a friend. What kind of document to I need to give this person permission to take care of all their needs?

You could probably do a special or limited POA but for only 10 days, it probably is not necessary as long as you'll have ready access to a telephone during your absence and the ability to authorize over the phone whatever authorizations may be needed with respect to your children.

If you want to be extra careful, I suggest that you leave a health care power of attorney and a copy of your medical insurance card. Google "child medical health care power of attorney" and you should be able to find a usable form.

Enjoy your trip.
