legal name change
Am I required to do my name change in the state that I was born in, or can I do it in the state which I reside in. Also, how long is the process after the forms have been submitted.

If you currently reside in Virginia, you should be able to pick up a forms packet with instructions from the clerk's office of your local circuit court entitled "Name Change for an Adult". Follow the instructions in completing the forms required for the name change and file them with the clerk's office and you'll then be on your way to legally changing your name in the Commonwealth without paying for the services of an attorney to accomplish it.
