Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Limitations to legal custody?

My wife and I are preparing to file for divorce and have agreed on sole physical custody for her. However, she wants sole legal custody as well as she feels this gives her control over day to day decisions. I have no problem with this but am concerned about not having the ability to have a voice in long term decisions such as a medical accident, relocation, or drastic school/lifestyle change. What are the limitation (if any) of sole legal custody? What rights would I be left with if I agree to this?

Re: Limitations to legal custody?

You are correct to have such concern(s)since if you allowed your wife the right to have sole legal custody, you would have no right to participate in the kinds of major decisions in the life (or lives) of your child(ren)such as you've mentioned.
