Since Virginia law does not recognize domestic partnerships or civil unions, each of you

would likely have the same liability with respect to this house purchase as any individual would have who had carried out the transaction with a co-purchaser as tenants in common, i.e., each of you are likely "on the hook", so to speak, for the outstanding balance on the house note.

The two of you would most likely be treated just as two persons who are not in a personal relationship. You should hire an attorney who handles real estate transactions.

I have an associate who handles these type of matters. Feel free to telephone.
