Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
I live in VA and just found out I have a 16 year old son. Can i be forced to pay child support for the first 16 yrs or just the remaining 2 until he is 18?

Whichever comes first, until the boy graduates from high school or turns age 19, if the paternity test proves that in fact you are the boy's father. (Child support arrearages cannot be recovered in this kind of situation for any period that predates the filing of the petition for support.)

Child support usually relates back to the time when the petition was filed. However, there may be circumstances such as the mother using government aid - and the government wanting reimbursement.
