Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I live in Virginia. My wife and I are seperated for three months, I have filed for divorce siting Desertion, we have not gone to court yet. My wife keeps refusing me to see my daughter she tells me I can visit then she tells me I can't unless she is present. I go for three weeks at a time without seeing my child because I don't want to make a scene. I have been making regular payments to my ex-wife by check, not court ordered, but I want to make sure my daughter has what she needs. I call or text my daughter every day to tell her I will take care of her no matter what and she replys and always tells me I love you and I tell her I love her but still my ex-wife will not let me see her.. Is this acceptable.....what can I do?
