What quialifies as an abandonment in a marriage?

Depends upon the particular facts involved with the situation. One spouse packing up his or her suitcase

and disappearing from the marital residence into parts unknown

with no explanation nor affirmation of any intent to return should qualify as one example of legal abandonment.

There are obviously many other examples which could also qualify where the separation hasn't been so starkly precipitous nor the whereabouts of the abandoning spouse necessarily unknown.
