Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

mental illness and divorce

I left my husband 4 years ago, and have never been allowed to see the children again not even to visit. I knew even when i left i was very seriously mentally ill but didn't know what was wrong with me. But i was losing control all the time and it was scaring my children and my husband was no help.

Since we are still legally married, he had to keep me on his medical insurance. I have just recently been told i have BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) and there is also concern that i might be getting cervical cancer. My husband will not speak with me still and delivers all messaged thru my children (boys ages 14 and 16) since we do at least talk on the phone. He has told me i cant use his insurance much longer since he has now decided to file for a divorce. A friend of mine told me that he cannot file for divorce if I have proof of a severe mental disorder and deny me medical help. Is this true?
