Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Needing to change venue

My divorce was heard in Prince William County circuit court. I have since moved to Albemarle County and have filed a motion myself to be heard on a motions day to have the venue changed to JDR court in my home county. My ex has an attorney, I don't. I have lived here a year with my children from that marriage and I am wanting to address support and visitation issues and hope to do most of it myself in ALbemarle JDR. What are the chances that this will be successful?

Re: Needing to change venue

Unless there is some compelling reason to keep the case in Prince William (other than the fact your former spouse may continue to reside there,

the Circuit Court should be willing to grant your motion for a change of venue.

You should familiarize yourself with the income

shares formula which Virginia uses to determine

the share of each parent responsible for the support of the child(ren) as well as Title 20-108.2 of the Virginia Code which contains the "Guidelines for the determination of Child Support" in the Commonwealth, if you plan to pursue the child support issue on your own.
