Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I am the non-custodial parent, and the custodial parent took me to court to get an increase in child support, but after they reviewed my paystubs, they found that he could only get a decrease in support. The judge asked him if he wanted to null and void that case since he would only get a decrease and he stated yes. Our case was first opened in 1995. Now child support is telling me that I have to continue to pay after she turns 18, because he took me back to court and it starts a new date, but if the judge asked him if he wanted to drop that case; doesn't the order originates back to the previous date of the order?
