Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I had recently found some documents that my EX-wife had notarized to change my 2 sons last name to mine, how long are notary's good for? and how do i start the process to change their last name. They currently live in Illinois. Thank you

Re: notary

You can pick up the packet of forms with instructions at any Virginia Circuit Court which

will tell you how to do a name change for either

an adult or a minor. You don't say whether you now

have custody of the children or someone else and

whether they are permanently residing In Illinois or are planning to return to Virginia---which

could make a difference as to whether you can do the name change in Virginia.

A notary's signature is valid indefinitely.
