Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Nulling a marriage
I am nineteen years old and got married in the state of Virginia. My husband is nineteen also. We were married by the Justice of the peace with no witnesses. It was a secret marriage and I just recently told my family. I have only been married for two and a half months. My mother wants the marriage anulled. I researched the laws of Virginia and I didn't find anything saying she could have that done. Can she have it done? what are the grounds for it if she can?

Re: Nulling a marriage
No, your mother cannot have your marriage annuled, as both you and your husband were over age 18 when you married, and were, therefore, in the proverbial eyes of the law, able to make your own decisions on the matter of marriage, without the consent(s) of your parents.
