Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

i have paied child support for 8 years on two children one of which has recently truned 18. am i able to stop paying on the one now. if so how do i go about doing this, do i need to get a lawyer?

You can recalculate child support to now cover only the one child unter 18 (if the older child has graduated high school -- if not the older child's support continues until the earlier of graduation from high school or reaching the age of 19).

The calculation is based on your gross income, the other parent's gross income, the cost of providing health insurance for the child and who provides it, and any reasonable and necessary day care to permit the custodial parent to work during the day. If you have an obligation to pay child support for another child who is not born of your former wife, that would also be considered in the calculations. The attorney who helped in the divorce should be able to help you with this for a reasonable fee.
